Why GMAT ?
The Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT is a Computer Adaptive Test taken by aspirants who dream of pursuing their MBA in their favorite Business schools abroad. Conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) the Graduate Management Admission Test is one of the most important MBA entrance exams in the world.
GMAT is an entrance criterion and has gained acceptability in over 2300 colleges and 7000 programs across the world. It caters to candidates who are looking forward to associating with the leading B-Schools of the world, as management graduates. Every year over 200,000 candidates sit for the GMAT.

GMAT Computer Adaptive Test
The GMAT is a Computer Adaptive test that which over 200,000 candidates sit for the test. The challenge is to assess them on the basis of how these candidates perform on a 3-hour test. Therefore, the test was designed specifically by GMAC in an adaptive manner to check a test taker’s ability in the shortest span of time.
The quantitative and verbal reasoning sections of the GMAT are computer-adaptive meaning it judges a candidate in real-time on the basis of his ability level.
Computer adaptive testing selects questions based on the answers to the previous questions. For example, if you answer a question correctly, your following question will be slightly tough.
Whereas, if you fail to provide the correct answer to your previous question, you will be presented with an easy question. The process continues until you complete the section. You cannot skip, return or change your answers to questions.

Analytical Writing Assessment Syllabus
The GMAT Analytical Writing Assessment section evaluates your critical reasoning skill and communication skills. Candidates are judged on how well he puts their analytical arguments on paper. The test duration is 30 minutes and the score ranges from 0-6 in half-point increments. The GMAT AWA syllabus may have 2 types of essays:
- GMAT Argument Essay- you have to analyze the reasoning and make an argument that is logical and grammatically correct.
- GMAT Issue Essay- you have to write an issue-based essay in 600 words. The opinions made in your essay can be in favor of the given statement or against it.
Integrated Reasoning Syllabus
The GMAT Integrated Reasoning syllabus tests your comprehension ability and how well you integrate data presented in graphical or tabular form. the test duration is 30 minutes and includes the following types of questions in the sections.
- GMAT Table Analysis- this section checks a candidate’s ability to interpret and classify given data in the form of a table.
- GMAT Two-Part Analysis- This section tests the candidate’s ability to solve equations, and decode complex relationships between objects. The question can be verbal or quantitative.
- GMAT Multi-Source Reasoning- this section has questions in the form of graphs, tables, and charts. A candidate is required to determine and interpret the data.
- GMAT Graphics Interpretation- it checks a candidate’s ability to interpret the information given in the form of graphs, bar charts, pie charts, etc., and answer questions based on them.
Quantitative Reasoning Syllabus
The GMAT Quantitative Reasoning syllabus tests a candidate on parameters such as mathematical reasoning, complex problem-solving skills, and graphical interpretation skills. The types of questions include
- GMAT Problem Solving Questions- solve complex quant problems using logical and analytical skills.

Verbal Reasoning Syllabus
The GMAT Verbal Reasoning syllabus assesses a candidate’s reading and comprehension skills through arguments, essays, and sentence correction rules. The duration of this section is 65 minutes. The verbal reasoning section has 36 multiple choice questions divided into
GMAT Critical Reasoning- this section measures your ability to understand arguments and create an action plan. You are required to provide an answer either supporting an argument or criticizing it, albeit in a proper analytical manner.
GMAT Reading Comprehension- candidates are tested on the basis of the following reading skills: inference, main idea, application, logical structure, and style. The aim is to understand the developments of quant concepts and logical relationships between significant points.
GMAT Sentence Correction- this section measures your usage of the English language. you are judged on the basis of your choice of vocabulary, choice of words, grammar, sentence construction, etc.

The GMAT is a computer adaptive test and lasts for 3 hours and 7 minutes. The GMAT exam pattern is divided into four sections:

Slot Booking
GMAT Slot Booking
MAT Slot Booking and GMAT Registering are completely different. Registration means creating an account by filling in your details such as name, address, etc. Here, you are to pay for the test after creating an ID and password.
Booking a Slot for GMAT means you are to select your date of the test and the test center.
GMAT Exam Fees
The GMAT fee in INR 22,800 approximately.
GMAT Cancellation Fee
GMAT cancellation fees depend on the date of cancellation prior to the exam.
- If you cancel GMAT 1-14 days prior to your test date, then you will be charged INR 15,800.
- If you cancel GMAT 16-60 days prior to the test date, you will be charged INR 13,816.
GMAT Rescheduling Fee
- In case you want to reschedule GMAT 1-14 days before the test date, you have to pay a rescheduling fee of US $150,
- If you reschedule GMAT 15-60 days before the test date, you have to pay a rescheduling fee of US $100.
GMAT Registration
GMAT registration can be done 6 months or 24 hours before the test date. However, the slot is not available during last-minute GMAT bookings. So it is advised to register for GMAT quite early. Registration can be done through

On The Test Day

Arriving at your GMAT Test Center
- arrive early at the test center, you will not be allowed to enter the center if you are late.
- keep all your personal belongings
- outside including your cell phones, watches, and other electronic belongings
- there will be an official break,
- use it to eat and hydrate yourself
Identity Documents
- carry your identity proof such as your passport and other documents to the test center
- some centers might ask you for a finger scan
Score Reporting
GMAT Score Reporting
There are 3 types of GMAT scores that GMAC generates:
- An Unofficial Score Report
- An Official Score Report
- An Enhanced Score Report
Unofficial Score Report
- you get an unofficial score report on the quant, verbal, integrated reasoning, and total scores immediately after completing the GMAT exam. however, the Analytical writing assessment scores will be given to you on your official score report.
- you will be given 2 minutes by the computer to either select or cancel the scores. if any action is not selected within the given time, the unofficial scores will automatically be canceled.
- the printout of the unofficial score reports is not for admission procedures and cannot be sent to any colleges and universities.
Official Score Report
- you will receive your GMAT Official Score report within 20 days of your GMAT exam. If you take the GMAT Online, you can get it within 7 days.
- the score report contains scores of the quant, verbal, integrated reasoning, Analytical writing assessment section, and also the total scores. it contains scores of your recent exam and the ones you have taken in the past 5 years.
- if you have canceled any scores, the exams will not be listed on the score report. Furthermore, schools will not have any knowledge of you taking the exam.
- the score report is valid for 5 years and can be sent to schools and colleges for your admission purposes.
Enhanced Score Report
- The GMAT Enhanced Score Report is a breakdown of your test performance in each section.
